Venom Movie Moving Forward?
September 26, 2009
SCI FI Wire got a chance to talk to Zombieland co-writer Paul Wernick about the script for "Spider-Man" spin-off Venom that he wrote with Rhett Reese.
"We've written two drafts of Venom, and the studio has it, and they're pushing forward in whatever ways they push forward," Wernick said. He was tight-lipped about whether there was a relationship between Spider-Man 4 and the Venom project.
"We can't really talk about that, unfortunately," he added. "Basically, the studio and Marvel and the Arads are taking our drafts and going beyond and figuring out what's the next step."

I'll go ahead and call that good news. I can't imagine that they'd risk a backlash against another terrible interpretation of Venom (not that I'm THAT up in arms about his appearance in Spider-Man 3). But, who knows? Studios have their own thing that I don't really get sometimes.

Excellent news! They have to write him back to life if they want to use him in the Sinister Six for Spidey part 6.
I hope they're still using the script that has him escaping a government lab. I liked that limited series.

THE SINISTER SIX CANNOT WORK...THEYVE ONLY INTRODUCED SOME OF THE CHARACTERS...OTHERS HAVE YET TO BE INTORDUCED AND OTHERS ARE DEAD!!! RAIMI WANTED TO MAKE SPIDERMAN BELIEVABLE...HOW THE HELL CAN YOU PUT SIX CHARACTERS AGAINST ONE AND WRITE A BELIEVABLE SCRIPT...WHAT A JOKE...SPIDERMAN BETTER STOP AFTER 4...IT WOULD SPARE US ALL FROM WATCHING ANOTHER SM 3...YOU DONT LIKE WHAT I SAID...SUCK IT

They really screwed up the story of Spider-Man 3. I hate how the alien costume just shoots down from space like that rather than some way that makes more sense like Jameson's son crash landing the spaceship (like in the cartoon). The belltower scene in the cartoon also made a lot more sense then the 'across the road from the club' version in the movie. Did the writers not watch the cartoon first? It would have made it seem so much more real. And one of the coolest things about Eddie Brock in the beginning was that he was ALREADy beefed up and had the costume on top of that. Topher Grace is a puny nothing. Would have been better to have him as Electro. What's next, Elijah Wood as Kraven? lol
Posted by: Mark on September 26, 2009 at 02:57:00
Sinister 6 could work...
1) They already have Lizard in waiting... Dr Connors...
2) Electro would be easy enough
3) Kraven would be easy
4) I imagine they could bring Sandman back, but if not, stick with Hydroman
5) Mysterio for the MJ drama of course
6) the surprise villian... either could be a new one, or could be one of the Goblins... or Venom... or even Chameleon...
I could write a pretty kick-ass movie with that set. Only if they'd let me.

Granted, I always saw Venom as a bland, grossly overrated character, but how are they going to make a movie about a character who could barely hold his part as a villain in movie with three villains?
Posted by: Dormammu's asbestos cowboy hat on September 26, 2009 at 03:15:18
They'll do it. Mark my words. Spidey 6: The Sinister Six will crash Pete and MJ's wedding.
6 movies, 6 villains. Doc Ock didn't die. Harry would replace Norman. They could kill off Kraven and still have time to fill the blank spots in the roster. It's a simple task to introduce Rhino or Scorpion as supporting characters.

LAME! A movie about the lamest character ever!
Posted by: Intrepid on September 26, 2009 at 03:25:39
All I want is a rated R Venom movie. If they can do that then we have no worries. Unless they have Topher Grace play Eddie again then we'll have worries. Everything about Spidey 3 was crap on a stick. The Goblin never really even came back, Pete pretty much cried the whole time in-between musical numbers and Venom was a complete an utter joke. At least we had Bryce Dallas Howard to look at, but not often enough.

@ cowboy hat
Harry is dead.
@random
I'd bet Venom could "hold his own" in a movie (but that's to be seen, no arguments). He didn't "hold his own" in part 3 because the Spidey franchise is in grossly incompetent hands.
@Mark
Easy enough? You brushed off two major villains as "easy enough"? Lizard wasn't in the original sinister 6. As a matter of fact, I don't think he's ever joined the 6. Stick with Hydroman? What about his origin? His story and his purpose? Mysterio for the MJ drama "of course"? MJ didn't have anything to do with his origin. He was told to make a name for himself by killing a superhero. And then a "surprise villain"? What surprise? You're pulling a villain out of a hat? You do know that the 6 was pulled together by Doc Ock, right? I'm going to assume you're a kid who just picked up a few books and say these are just oversights of a non-fan.
@mark
yep. you're on it.
@bill devore
from where the franchise stands, you're right, it can't happen anymore. Had they planned it out though, i really think it could have happened and been cool. But it's almost too late for that.. almost. It would take a few flicks to set it up, but I'd really rather see Raimi and Maguire's reign end.
I'd like to see a decent Venom movie tie back to an amazing Spider-Man movie. I do not have high hopes. Not until they hire writers who have done more than read some comics as research. I want movie writers who are down to the core fans of spider-man. Who understand his struggles and his timeline, his personality and how he'd react in a given situation. We've only seen a few glimpses of it, and it's sad. Amazingly enough, one of the few times was in SM3 when he says "I'm the sheriff around these parts"... but while standing still. Spider-Man almost never stands still, that's a part of his fighting style.
One of these days, maybe 20 years from now, we'll get the Spider-Man movie we fans deserve.

Take Brock Lesner put him in a Venom costume and you got Eddie Brock...

I liked Topher.....in That 70's Show!!! He had no business being in the Spiderman movie, unless he was taking over as Peter Parker, which I wouldn't have mind at all. But to have him as Venom was a joke!!! He is a bag of bones and he just doesn't cut it as a 'bad guy'. I'm sorry, but every time he appeared on the movie I was waiting for Red to pop out of nowhere and call him a Dumbass!!!! Get someone bigger for the role, please! Maybe then it'll be interesting!

Okay I have only one question here. Why???? Venom is a highly overrated character and possibly one of the worst creations in Spidey's long history. I don't see how they can make this work or why anyone would want to for that matter. Oh wait I forgot...the money of course. No thank you. Moving on. Next

If they're not going to follow any storyline from the comic books, I have a suggestion. Why not introduce Kingpin and he will put bounty on Spiderman's head. Enter Kraven who like to do it for the challenge, Scorpion and Rhino who's bonded with their suits due to Kingpin's funding of experiments. Electro can come in as someone who's really angry at Spiderman because he blames him of his transformation. Mysterio can enter also as someone who's inlove with MJ and want Peter dead. Then Chameleon also for the bounty but he's the more subtle one than the other's brute force. See! Sinister 6 without the dead guys.
Posted by: junkpunk on September 26, 2009 at 04:58:30
Kingpin still belongs to FOX. It would be better to use the Smythes and their spider-slayers.
Only Norman Osborn is officially dead. The others all met a mystery fate, like they do on a regular basis in the comics. Norman can be replaced with Harry.

Why do all of you think Harry "could" be alive? He died in Peter's arms after he took 2 long blades through the abdomen. Or did Peter shed a tear because Harry finally had that seizure that he always wanted even though the movie never explained that?
Posted by: Mjolnir99 on September 26, 2009 at 06:08:34
"Norman can be replaced with Harry". Harry's job in the Sinister 6 is going to involve being the dead guy in the corner with an F-ing glider sticking out of his chest. I know SM3 wasn't the greatest but did any of you even make it to the end. Did you guys know that MJ and Peter are going to try to work out their problems? Or did you miss that too?
Posted by: Mjolnir99 on September 26, 2009 at 06:10:30
Maybe I saw a different version
Posted by: grow-up on September 26, 2009 at 07:01:25
Mjolnir99, we saw the same movie.
But those Osborns never stay dead. They are both alive and hating Spider-man right now in fact.
Has anyone read the Ultimate Spider-Man? Eddy is small like Peter. It was to make him more of a foil to Spider-man. Like Mercutio and Tybalt in Romeo and Juliet. So IF you want to look at it that way then Topher is good.
They should make Lethal Protector in to a movie.
PLEASE no Carnage any movie, or clones for that matter.

Theyre just buying scripts nothing new to see here.

Doc Ock could still be alive! I think it could work! His "death" could go either way. All I'm saying is having him alive all of a sudden and forming the Sinister Six would be that big of a stretch!
Of course we have Sandman already. Introducing Mysterio and say Kraven and giving them some kind of depth wouldn't be too hard to pull off.
Then adding Electro and mixing it up and putting in either Rhino, Vulture (the last original), Venom, or even Shocker as more supporting villains to round it out would be very possible.
For an even cooler twist, if they actually keep it going to movie six and don't re-booted it come movie five (I really hope not!) we could bring Norman's Green Goblin back as the secret power behind the Six and find out that he never actually died but was behind the creation of ever single villain in the series since himself! If it was done right, it could be really cool!
I think it would be cool to bring in Kraven and Lizard in movie four, Mysterio in movie five as the main villain and then have the Sinister Six form by the end and then go into movie six with the Six fully formed and have the final movie show down and end the series with that!

RAIMI WANTED TO MAKE SPIDERMAN BELIEVABLE...HOW THE HELL CAN YOU PUT SIX CHARACTERS AGAINST ONE AND WRITE A BELIEVABLE SCRIPT...
Umm...believable? You're joking right? How's being bitten by a radioactive spider and being given the strength, agility, and other characteristics of a spider believable? What about Sandman? Green Goblin? Venom? How's all that "believable"? IT'S A COMIC BOOK MOVIE!!! Make sure you know what you're talking about before you tell people on this site to "SUCK IT" moron! Btw, the Sinister Six isn't a bad idea but it would have to have a tie-in somewhere along the line where he teams up with another hero. As for the Venom movie, I'm not putting my hopes up.
Posted by: Zarrko on September 26, 2009 at 08:31:37
Venom's a pretty lame character, but I'd probably go see this. I imagine it will be on par with Ghostrider, and that movie was okay for a popcorn flick about a lame character that was made completely wrong.
Posted by: gssss on September 26, 2009 at 08:43:45
this is what they should do....... move forward with spiderman 4 and then do the iron man/avenger movies on the side.... somewhere down the line they should go into the "ultimate spiderman" storyline where S.H.I.E.L.D. knows that spiderman is peter parker.. then they should end spiderman 4 or 5 with samuel l jackson and tobey maguire walking past a high security door.. peter asks "whats in there" and sam says "nothing".. after the credits you could show a clip of samuel entering the room and you can't really see whats in there but you get a shot of one of doc ocks tentacles (as in shield recovered him from the water) right there u have a fan "chills down the spine" moment.. and then after that they should incorporate the sinister six in a movie with every avenger character, spiderman, blade, daredevil, punisher, pretty much the coolest marvel chracters and call the movie "ultimate alliance"..
