Alan Cumming to Play the Green Goblin?
May 15, 2009
Julie Taymor's big broadway production "Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark" just got a little more interesting. According to the New York Post, Alan Cumming is in talks to play the Green Goblin! Cumming, of course, played Nightcrawler in another Marvel production, X2: X-Men United:
JULIE Taymor has cast forth her $40 million "Spider- Man" net and hauled in -- Alan Cumming.
The actor, who won a Tony in 1999 for his memorable turn as the emcee in "Cabaret," is in negotiations to play the Green Goblin in Taymor's new musical, or "circus rock 'n' roll drama," as she calls it.
Whatever it is, it's thought to be the most expensive thing in Broadway history.
Cumming was spotted last week at a production meeting, checking out Eiko Ishioka's imaginative costume designs.
"Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark" opens on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Broadway's Hilton Theatre, 213 West 42nd Street. Preview performances begin Saturday, January 16, 2010. U2's Bono and The Edge are creating new music and lyrics for the show.

idk. this might be a great show. she did a fantastic job in the lion king and frida. she has visions of what her productions to be like, and she executes them quite well. im looking forward to it. plus, alan cumming is a great actor. he did a great job as nightcrawler. two different characters but, he may surprise us.

Wow we'll have to wait on the first reviews, I work for Universsal and our new attraction is a musical call Creature of the Black Lagoon based on the old movies, according to some critics it's good, so things could be interesting for Spider-Man's musical

He should've been Gobbie in the movie as well but not with the helmet instead with makeup. This dude is talented. I think he'd also make a great Riddler.

This is going to be so f**king bizarre. Taymor is beyond weird... expect something like Titus with superheroes.
Still, it'll be better than Spider-Man 3.

Wow, what a great project, that's a way of spending useless money heheh...
Well, I have an idea... just like in the first Spider-Man movie, make him wear that bad Power Ranger suit!! That'll gatter the crowds!

Don't mean this in a hateful way at all,
but this show is going to be very homosexual.

Super heroes should never dance. Remember Spider man 3 when Parker went emo and decided to do a full out dance number to show up Mary Jane? Or the fantastic four 2 when all of them were in a dance club "Gettin down"? Nobody want to see this.
They almost made a Bat Man musical for broadway a few years back, but fortunately they decided against it. Looks like investors are gonna have to learn the hard way on this one.

Good news on snagging Cumming. He's a decent actor & I can see him playing GG well.
Ya know I have to admit, I had little to no interest in this production (C'mon...Spidey as a freakin' Broadway musical?!), but as time has went on my curiosity has grown. The real selling point is the music by Bono & The Edge...how can THAT fail? I won't be going to see this live, but I would definitely watch it on DVD if it is released as one...If for no other reason than to witness the spectacle of a $40 million show!

Having seen Evil Dead: The Musical a few times, and loving every bloody minute of it, it's my thought that, with enough time, passion, and the right cast, Spider-Man the musical should rock

stop hating on the firsters.. prejudice of any kind is ugly.
as for this musical.. I saw Wicked and loved it.. it was flashy and colourful with great sets, music and dialogue..
I think I'd be quite entertained by a show like this.. its just a different medium.
it would be worth a trip to NYC imho.
peace.

Huh?
Times like this, I wish the apocalypse would hurry up.

Actually, as lame as a Spider-Man musical sounds to me, this is incredible casting. Alan Cumming is a great singer and would look great as the Green Goblin... not the movie version, but the comic version. Imagine him painted all green and laughing that demonic laugh. I actually think this is great casting and this news makes me want to see this movie next time I'm in New York. So there... a positive comment... how do you like that?

the better questions (and even subject title)is " IS ALAN CUMMING SUCKING SPIDER-MAN'S C O C K on BROADWAY?" becasue THEN I would be offended.
