Blunt No Longer Available for Iron Man 2?
January 30, 2009
Variety is reporting that Emily Blunt has been cast opposite Jack Black and Jason Segel in Gulliver's Travels. Problem is, the film shoots at almost the same time as Iron Man 2. We quote...
Blunt had already been offered the role of Black Widow in "Iron Man 2," but that may not be an option because of "Gulliver's Travels." Fox holds an option on the actress that was part of her deal when she co-starred in "The Devil Wears Prada," and the studio may invoke it to see that she takes part in the giant tale.
While Blunt's reps are still trying to work out scheduling so she can play both roles, it will be an uphill battle because of scheduling overlap. "Gulliver's Travels" will shoot in the U.K. in late March; "Iron Man 2" is expected to begin lensing in early April in Manhattan Beach, Calif.
Earlier this week it seemed that Marvel Entertainment would have to go back to the drawing board to find an actress to play Natasha Romanoff, the Soviet superspy who moonlights as Black Widow, a beauty in a skintight black costume enhanced by high-tech weaponry. But by late Thursday, it looked like Fox and Blunt's reps were feeling more optimistic that she could do both projects.
So that ends on a positive note... let's hope she can indeed do both.

and I care why?
If she goes with Fox she's bound to make more money anyway...not saying Iron Man 2 won't make money...saying that if they offered Mickey Rouke 250,000 to act in it, God knows what they are going to pay her

she better do both, if not, just quit that other stupid movie and do iron man 2!!!

This is very interesting. While reading the article, for a second I thought fox was pulling a jerk move by purposely making Blunt unavailable to play the Black Widow. By the way it ended, doesnt seem that way....although it is fox and theyre rep needs some mending, so they may just be playing nice to save some rep. She looks the part, but other factor is that she cant look stupid when she fights so I'd have to see her do some action to be convinced she's right for the role.

could be worse... they could be trying to
get Angelina Jolie to be the widow...
I swear that B**** is everywhere.
Still... could be worse.

They should get either get Natalya Rudakova (female lead in Transporter 3 because she's actually from St. Petersburg Russia) or Olga Kurylenko (female lead in Quantum of Solace and Hitman, from the Ukraine)

everyone is saying marvel is cheap cause they offered Rourke $250000. there was a reason for that. through a producers point of view actors are investments. Rourke just recently overcame his cocaine addiction which was the primary cause of his acting slup until he did the Wrestler. but his lack of star power and history of substance abuse make him a liability. and for a liability $250000 is a pretty reasonable offer.

oh, everyone please stfu about Marvel being cheap. It's business, plain and simple. Not only that, but who gives a flying crap about Blunt anyways? She's completely replaceable for the role. Just find some other female, preferably with a athletes figure and not some skinny model.

hulk smash...
Finally someone that demonstrates some sense on these threads. Lately, the comments on here have annoyed me to no end. Constant griping and whining about everything and anything. Sweeping statements about what directors and producers are doing without any actual knowledge of what they're doing.
So thanks for bringing some logic to the discussion. And heck, maybe we can turn this thing back into an actual "discussion" and quick the sarcastic one-liners and the ridiculous obsession with claiming "first" once and for all.
Probably won't happen... but one can hope.
As far as Emily Blunt goes, I hope she remains onboard. She's a great actress and I'd love to see her take on the Black Widow.

rightwinger said, "She's completely replaceable for the role. Just find some other female, preferably with a athletes figure and not some skinny model."
First of all, Blunt's always been an actress. Any modeling she's done has come out of her performance roles. So she's not technically a model.
Second of all, as an actress (and a good one at that) she should be able to turn herself into whatever character she's playing, which means bulking up a bit if need be. Tobey Maguire went from a skinny kid to being ripped for Spider-Man, so why are you throwing Blunt aside because of her current appearance? It's pretty standard on these things to train the actors for whatever action stuff they'll be doing, which means a lot of gym time.
People keep lumping actors into boxes as though they were simply capable of doing one thing. But the whole point of acting is to try and become different things. Let the girl give it a shot. You might be surprised.

Just a side note on Blunt's weight... She was actually asked to lose weight for "The Devil Wears Prada." Which means she's probably game to gain some weight for other roles.

I'm going to put this as polite as possible via text communication. If you read my original post properly, you will see that nowhere did I state anything about Blunt's physique. I was simply describing the female actor that they should chose if not her. Blunt is fine. My point is that she can go without harming the film in any way, she's a secondary cast member and not a lead.

Anti-Fanboy Drama-"And I care why?"

rightwinger, you said, "Just find some other female, preferably with a athletes figure and not some skinny model."
"Not some skinny model" implies that Blunt is a skinny model. And yes, of course an actor can be replaced. But the way you phrased it ("who gives a flying crap about Blunt anyways? She's completely replaceable for the role") implies she's little more than trash. Had it been me, I simply would've said, "Hey, if she can't do the role, they'll get someone else."
Just hate it when people are rude for no reason. And unfortunately, the anonymity of the internet allows for courtesy to be thrown out the window.

The Black Widow on screen, in a live action movie will be very sexy for sure.

( Sorry for that, just saw pictures of Kristen Bell and Emily Blunt earlier, again really sorry, beauty makes me loose my grip sometimes, just picturing what the black widow could be..)

To: Spyder121. Whats up with you? You this girls agent or boyfriend or something?... No need to be so defensive!

Spyder121:
It's not my problem you took more out of my comments than what was actually intended. I tried to be polite and explain that my statement was not referencing Blunt directly, but you wish to continue on... You are nothing more then the typical run of the mill emotional Gen Yer that can't take a blunt statement for what it's worth. You wish to make more out of things b/c it suits you. Please keep the comments on topic and don't address me with your emo antics anymore.

Blunt was never a slam-dunk cast job, so this really isn't a big deal.
However, I definately get the impression Fox is sort of forcing her hand to make her unavailable for Iron Man 2, which I understand is a simple business move by them, but still pisses me off.
Also, any actress worth a damn could do a russian accent, so can we all stop freaking out if an american is offered the role?

Lately, Fox sure know how to mess around with other studio. 1st WB for the Watchmen & now Marvel. Fortunately this time, is still at early stage but it may coz some delays.
Fox, please stop f***ing around, will ya?

I have a better idea than blunt for this role...actually, a coworker mentionned it to me and I completely agree with it.
