Updates From Licensing International Expo 2008

In a follow-up to Wednesday's article on the displays at the Licensing International Expo 2008 in New York this week, scooper 'Compi716' sent us this note about the new RoboCop movie:
I was at the Licensing Show today, and I made sure to ask the MGM guy about 'RoboCop.' He said it is 100% going to be rated R, and, "It's going to blow everyone away. They've offered it to some really great directors. I can't say who, but wow." Sounds interesting.
Meanwhile, MTV has posted the logos that Marvel Studios has on display here. Included are Iron Man II, Thor, The First Avenger: Captain America and The Avengers.
More photos of the G.I. Joe displays can also be found here.

Man i hope its true the studio is gearing robocop remake a hard R rating if they dont there is really no point to doing the character at all.

The Logo's look like cartoon series logo's except for the IM2 logo, but still excited for the upcoming slate.

I personally liked the 1st 2 Robo cop movies. # 3 ...well that really sucked ass. I really think that given the right director and now that a R rating is assigned to it, this movie will probably deliver the goods. Death, violence and whatever the director can do with the budget he is allotted.
Can't wait....the name's Murphy!

They look a little rushed... The Hulk's Logo and Ironman's look like they represent actual live action movies, these look like something for the cr@p animated movies Marvel has been coming out with. Can't wait for every single one though! Quick question, does Fox now own the rights to Deadpool since he will be in X-Men Origins? Not sure how the smaller charcters work for the studio thing...

Well it's obvious you folks don't actually read comics. Marvel has just taken the logos off of the existing comics. Those are identical to the logos that appear on the titles right now, except for Cap. Cap's is similar though. I seriously doubt those will stand the test of time, one you have a director actually working on the film in production they will pick something that matches the overall feel of the film.

I have it on extremely good authority that Marvel has approached Neal McDonough for the role of Captain America. Sounds like a very good choice to me.

the font that is used in the captain america logo
looks just the way it did in its first years of publishing, so i guess the movie its going to be about cap in WWII era

I'm worried about THOR... It's only two years away and all they have is a director...
Posted by: Travis on June 12, 2008 at 10:37:25
I still say Josh Holloway from LOST will make a good THOR...

Robocop was awesome back in the day with the lack of special effects, Robocop will be a movie no directer could muck up, this will be awesome, you wait and see, but until then Long Live the DARK KNIGHT only a month away

Hey, I heard that too about Neal McDonough being Captain America. I think he's a great actor and an excellent choice.

"Robocop will be a movie no director could muck up." -Yes I said it!!!
Oh really?? Irvin Kirshner had no trouble completely destroying everything that was established in the first film (but he directed the empire strikes back so how could he do bad? insert rolling eyes here). Fred Dekker didn't have any trouble ruining things even further in number three. And let's not even think about the "future of law inforcement" series.
It's more like Robocop is one character no director can do right.
The original film (which yes, is perfect by the way) was absolutley dependant on the culture of the 1980s. There's really no way they can recapture that today.
If they do the film seriously it might be an OK movie, but there's no way they'll ever recapture the magic of the original.

It seems I'm the only one that remembers the book, "Where the Wild Things Are." From the looks of the poster it's going to be a fun movie. I can see why they want to update Robocop, although, if I see anything for Back to the Future, or Karate Kid, I'm boycotting movies all together.

i think that frank miller should do robocop like he wanted to. imagine seeing his TRUE vision coming on the screen the way it was meant to be seen...Frank! Please do Robocop after The Spirit! Please!

I have posted my thoughts about RoboCop on the previous forum and don't wish to repeat, so I'll skip that altogether. As for Marvel, I'm quite happy with the slate so far. It's a shame there will be no R movies from them(which means no perfect Punisher, so let's hope War Zone will satisfy everyone). I am very skeptical about Mr. McDonough playing Captain America. I suppose he has the right voice for it, but something about him just doesn't make a believable american poster boy. He just has too much of a negative history with characters. Perhaps watching "Flags of Our Fathers" will get me in more of a mood.
As for the question about Deadpool: yes, Fox now owns Deadpool for at least a few years.
Iron Man is obviously wanted, but what I'm really looking forward to is Thor. I'd like to see how they put ol' lightning bolts up on the screen. I hope they end up with the new Ultimate design, but the old "real god" storyline. It's all coming together. AND, with Marvel finally moving into the whole "supernatural" material, Dr. Strange would be open for production. We all know how the Cap story will role out: The whole movie takes place in WWII setting up his origin, then they find him in the ice, and bring him to the future, with an ending that screams: Avengers, ASSEMBLE!
END OF ENTRY

Neal McDonough's gonna be great as Cap. Good pick Marvel! I think you got that one right!

You are right!!! I just read that article. Way to go Neal McDonough!! You deserve to be Captain America!!!!

That is simply an example of punctuation not being visible in speech. The MGM employee actually said: "That new Robocop movie is going to blow. Everyone, away!"

To: Wyngarde.
From what I read on either iesb.net or scifimoviepage.com, the Jack Black Green Lantern comedy is now defunct.
A more faithful version of the Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) has been greenlit by Warner Bros.
---Later!

I don't think Neal McDonough is good choice. He looks like matt Damon had too many face lifts with some Michael Jackson bleach! Why couldn't they get someone with a little more credibility as an american hero, he'd fit better on the Nazi side in WW2.
