Green Lantern to Shoot in Mexico?
Source:Octoberist
September 30, 2009
Inside Film is reporting that Warner Bros. may shoot Green Lantern in Mexico because of the rising Australian dollar. Here's a clip:
Warner Bros is understood to be preparing to shift its Green Lantern production to Mexico from Australia, where the booming currency has blown out costs.
The latest proposal overrides recent plans to shift the film to the US state of Louisiana (as reported in the October issue of INSIDEFILM) although a final decision has yet to be made.
If the shoot does proceed at Fox Studios Australia it would add more than $US20 million to production costs due to the rising dollar, according to sources.
You can check out the full article here. Green Lantern, to be directed by Martin Campbell, will star Ryan Reynolds and is eying a June 17, 2011 release.

I know lets go CHEAP - Mexico is where it's at.
DC = not enough money to shoot anything not called "Batman"

Let's not forget, both Titanic and the Tremors TV series were shot in Mexico.

Nothing wrong with shooting in MExico - its a great place - it's just that WB/DC keep backtracking. This smells funnier than Craig.....

Good decision, save more cash. At least it won't stink like what Marvel has been shoveling us for years....

These comments have been surprisingly well thought out and read (mostly, I'm looking at you Craig).
I wish the Hype's comments weren't a muckery of memes and firsts. Some civilized conversation on stories would be enjoyable. For now, I'll stick to the boards.

For realism, they need to shoot in Juarez...plenty of potential for action shots there.

The only bad thing about Mexico is all those damned Mexicans.

If they need stretches of desert, why not just keep it in the USA and go someplace like Arizona or Nevada or New Mexico? Give American soil some of that revenue and, you know, keep it AUTHENTIC.

i hope this gets shut down, Reynolds is a poor actor who has never had a real role (don't say wolverine cause he was in that for 5 minutes and the movie sucked)
the only movie i ever liked with him in it was waiting and that was only ok
this movie is going to ruin the green lantern for all of us. its gonna be another wolverine:origins

DasGoon - because you get 40% more (or greater) in AUS, and almost double, (if not more) in Mexico. a 200 Million dollar film in America could cost as little as 125 Million with foreign shooting.

Ryan Reynolds simply isn't equipped to handly this role. No, I'm not sure I have any particularly strong alternates in mind - Boreanaz is a good actor, but doesn't have the bombastic moral rectitude thing that Hal Jordan one-dimensionally projects, he's more skilled at conflicted; Fillion's too flip an cavalier in his roles, and might be a sufficient Guy Gardner, except he's not confrontational enough. Chris Meloni, who voiced GL in the animated, would be a great Guy, but I haven't thought of anyone who really can handle Hal yet. Maybe get Jim Caviziel out of mothballs?

Shooting in Mexico? YESSSSS!!!! We're getting a Donkey Show scene!!!!!!!!!

Ryan got this job AND Marvel's Deadpool. If you can do better, GO FOR IT. Raise your flag and see who salutes it. (It worked for Red vs Blue, and works for SyFy). Either way, I'll see all of you at the theatre.

Did you know that John Wayne filmed most of his Americana - Cowboy flicks in Durango, México? I resent the comment made above by "His Cousin Vinny" about those "Damned Mexicans" and I quote "The only bad thing about Mexico is all those damned Mexicans". I am PROUDLY Mexican and is no secret that my people has directly contributed to the greatness of the USA for many years. Intolerance and racism bring NOTHING. ´Nuff said.
Bring the "Green Lantern" production to Mexico or wherever the costs are reduced. I´m sure it´ll be an amazing movie nontheless for Martin Campbell work is proved to be awesome (filmed already Zorro 1 & 2 at Tlaxcala and San Luis Potosí, MEXICO).
Cheers to you all.

Doesn't bother me where they shoot this movie. A majority of the film will be in space anyway. Just as long as it is still set for next December's release.
P.S. don't drink the water!

Didn't DC/Warner Bros have trouble with Australia before with The Justice league?

Titanic, Troy, and Dune were shot in Mexico. This one should turn out fine too.

should be shot in SPACE!!!!

I guess this is a "reimagining" of the Green Lantern. Hey, Kryptoniano said Zorro was filmed over there. Maybe Green Lantern will be related to Zorro somehow. Hey, the both wear similar masks. . . . hmmmm. . . .
