Jay Chou Cast as Kato in The Green Hornet
Source:Columbia Pictures
August 7, 2009
After a worldwide search, Jay Chou, the multi-hyphenate singer-actor and a star throughout Asia, has joined the cast of Michel Gondry's The Green Hornet in the iconic role of Kato, it was announced today by Doug Belgrad and Matt Tolmach, presidents of Columbia Pictures.
Gondry said, "Jay is incredibly unique and charming and fights like a wild dog! When I filmed him next to Seth, they had such great chemistry, and I knew the movie will be great."
Chou added, "It's an overwhelming experience to take on a role made famous by Bruce Lee. I won't try to be Bruce Lee's Kato – I will try to bring my own interpretation to the part. Of course, it's a dream role, and I'm looking forward to the challenge."
The Green Hornet is scheduled for a July 9, 2010 release.

The cast for this movie has FAIL written all over it.
I can't believe the effort put in to trying to remake this TV show, just give up already no one is going to watch it.
It's not even worth a free download of the movie.
Tim Burton did a good job of reimagining the 60's Batman, but this looks like a fail already just by the cast and the pictures of the new car @SDCC.

AWESOME!!! I love this guy.
Watch Initial D, Curse of the Golden Flower. Great choice.
Give a movie a chance, geesh. Noone has a shred of basis to be dumping on the movie. Since when has Seth Rogan dissapointed? I expect it to be crazy action with great humor!

my name says it all.
what the hell was jay chou thinking!!! this is not a movie for him. i do not want to see a f*n stoner kato!!
please leave all the bruce lee movies ALONE!! the man was a legend and turning his movies to crap is a big disrespect in his face and to his legacy that was the real reason stephen chow left, he knew that this movie was not gonna live up to bruce.

Perfect actor. That guy does look like Bruce Lee. I remember him in Shaolin Soccer and he pretended to be Bruce Lee with jumpsuit. It was hilarious.
Good casting.

Man this movie should be pretty interesting even if it is a action comedy.

I was waiting for this to happen.

Now thats what i expected an actor to play Kato to be, not an old fart like Stephen Chow. I still have hopes in this movie. Damn you people are the biggest idiots, you won't give an actor a chance and believe he can do something serious. People thought the same way when other comedians started doing more serious stuff and they did a pretty good job.
You people are the biggest judgmental people i have ever heard and you should be ashamed of yourself.

I really am amazed at how some of the morons here say the movie is gonan suck donkey balls blah blah. What the hell, you have no idea what the movie is going to be like. all you know is who is playing GH , Kato etc etc and your superior brain already figured out the movie is going to suck. Only thing thats gonna suck is ur mouth : probably my juicy salty balls. Get a life. Give the movies a chance before you start acting like an all knowing entity.

When has Seth Rogan dissapointed?
Hahahahahahaha!
In every retarded movie he has been in.
A classic Radio and Pulp magazine character ruined by a no talent hack.
This poor guy doesn't realize he's risking his career with this turkey.

If the casting and the story are well done....it'll be awesome.....if they're not....then it will probably suck. And I have to say that I am really intrigued with this casting for Kato as it has to be somebody at least somewhat comparable to Bruce Lee. And after having watched some of Jay's previous fight scenes....I'm really impressed. As such, I will definitely be checking this movie out now.

Did the watcher seriously just say that batman 89 was a reimagining of the sixties show?
Posted by: blue spandex rock! on August 7, 2009 at 16:15:52
Seth Rogen is so overrated! The Green Hornet is a mix of Batman/Superman/Spider-man (though the result is interesting): A guy with a gun, cool martial arts sidekick, cool theme song and a lot of potential on the big screen. The BIG mistake is Rogen, which said that the approach on the Hornet would be a comedy, THAT is where the whole FAIL thing is. Cage and Diaz are just collateral damage.

Kato is no supposed to be the main draw kids, I like Chau but nobody else in the movie.

Superman-Prime
Jay Chou wasn't in Shaolin Soccer - that was Stephen Chow. Jay Chou has been in SIX movies - that wasn't one of them.
Posted by: Ben on August 7, 2009 at 16:33:54
Jay Chou, hmm, he looks like John Cho (Harold Lee from HAROLD N KUMAR)? It'll be awesome.

Sweet!!!! It's about time Hollywood cast some fresh bold talent in their action films. Who is playing Green Hornet? 2010 a green year. Good luck bro.
.Green Hornet
.Green Lantern
What about Green Arrow/Oliver Reed? Naaa just a copycat off of Robin Hood. Then again it would be interesting.

I think this will turn into I SPY. It was an action comedy that was mediocre. I liked this better when it was going to be Kevin Smith written/directed with George Clooney and Jet Li attached/rumored.
