The Dark Knight Reaches $921.7M Worldwide
September 2, 2008
ComingSoon.net has posted the box office estimates for the four-day Labor Day weekend and The Dark Knight is still going strong:
After four weeks at #1 before dropping down to fourth place last week, Christopher Nolan's action-thriller The Dark Knight (Warner Bros.) not only crossed the $500 million mark domestically yesterday, a feat only accomplished once before by James Cameron's Titanic, but it also moved back up a notch to third place with $11 million over the extended weekend for a total of $504.7 million. Internationally, The Dark Knight added $19.2 million for an overseas gross of $417 million. Combined, it has earned a massive $921.7 million worldwide and has climbed to the 9th spot on the all-time worldwide blockbuster list.

with the absence of good movies for the next few weeks, WB should pump up some see it again ads and get it on more screens. then it could get to titanic.
if they do nothing i don't see it getting there.

Marvel may be ahead of dc in the movies but it looks like Batman almost matched them with one film!!

Marvel may be ahead of dc in the movies but it looks like Batman almost matched them with one film!!
But surely that would also mean the quality of DC would diminish when you think back to their other projects... like Catwoman... Steel... Batman & Robin... Superman Returns... All but the last are unarguably horrible, with SR having at lease SOME fans. DC competes wit Marvel, with the very best and the very worst. TDK may be their flag ship, but it doesn't make their overall quality God-like and untouchable as many of their die-hard fans have felt.
Oh, and so we're clear, I'm not a Marvel zombie, I'm just a comicbook-to-film fan.

In response to treeweekend, I'm going to see it tonight before it disappears from UK cinemas totally! I think the biggest UK cities will have it in limited showings for a couple of weeks but in my area it's tailing off with only three showing times: afternoon, evening and night. I expect it'll be gone within the next 2 weeks.

i loved DK, but dont personally care how much its making now that its made so much. i do think that if they really wanted to make more money and attempt to beat titanic, they should take it out of theatres now! then they can reopen it in theatres around holloween. die-hard fans will want to see it again. people will want to see it to celebrate the holiday. and the ones who didnt see it and thought they lost thier chance for a theatre showing will be sure to watch it before it leaves again. just a thought.

I've seen TDK three times...very awesome...and still want more.
I hope TDK will beat Titanic, the movie deserves to be number one!!! Good job for all the cast, crew and Mr.Nolan. I really wanna see it will surpasses one billion just in next few days....

Move on please...

In Dallas, 2,301 people are lining up to see TDK one more time on Sept. 5th, 2008. The evening show. Dont know which yet. We are paying a tribute to Heath Ledger for the show and hope to earn the film some cash in Ledger's name only. I really think the people want an excuse to see TDK again anyways. Other cities should do the same. It's easy. Start a date, email everyone. Forward texts and stuff. and Fill the theaters!!! It can happen. We did it when pineapple express came out and did good. We sold out four showings.

Because this 'event' is in his name, it doesn't mean the money will go to him unless there was a clause in his contract of a percentage take.
Now that I think about it, I wonder if they did that for the family... hmmm... doubt it I guess. Straight to WBs pockets it goes.

@ treeweekend
Because in other countries people don't care about Heath Ledger.
