ComingSoon.net has posted the box office estimates, which show that The Dark Knight once again won the weekend!

Despite two more wide releases having entered theaters on Wednesday, The Dark Knight topped the box office for a fourth straight weekend, adding an estimated $26 million for a massive domestic total of $441.5 million. If the estimate holds, then the Christopher Nolan-directed film has surpassed Shrek 2 ($441.226 million) to climb to the third spot on the all-time domestic blockbuster list, trailing just Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope ($460.998 million) and Titanic ($600.788 million). Warner Bros. Pictures said it expects "Dark Knight" to end up with about $520 million domestically. The movie cost $185 million to make.

Internationally, The Dark Knight added $35.1 million at 7,000 theaters and has pushed its overseas total to $263 million for a worldwide total of $704.5 million.

Oops okay not first lmao

Fantastic. I don't think it's too far fetched an idea for it to beat Titanic. It's unlikely, but I can see it happening.

I will say that if it does, it will do so incredibly fast, Titanic was in theaters for MONTHS, as were the rest of the films in the top 5. The Dark Knight has been out for ONE month.

it should be 1st next weekend too.
tropic thunder looks like a crapper and clone wars are like 1940 cgi graphics. another crapper.

500 million looks very likely, 600 million is gonna be tough. i'm rooting for it.
pinapple express was good, not great. seth rogen should thank his lucky stars he hooked up with apatow. he can't act at all. he is exactly the same in every movie. canadian, he can't say sorry without canadian accent?? don't get me wrong, i think he's funny, but O range. james franco made that movie good. it's worth seeing but not nearly as good as superbad.

Posted by: Melies on August 10, 2008 at 15:01:25

why is it SOOOOOOOOOOO important that it beats Titanic?? would it make TDK a better movie?? Is that we care about? How much money it makes??

Pineapple Express was pretty boring, with most of the funny parts already featured in the trailers.

Looking forward to Tropic Thunder, but I hope that it doesn't leave me as dissapointed as Pineapple Express.

With that out of the way, I still don't believe that The Dark Knight will beat Titanic. The gross is dying down, and another $160+ million will be difficult.

Other than the gross, I still fail to see what impact this film is having on anybody. Titanic was massive upon it's release, with constant bombardment in the form of not only box office, but merchandising, radio play, and television news coverage. Titanic was a word-of-mouth hit the likes of which will not be repeated for some time to come.

Dark Avenger (real original!) is just a BIG HUGE SUCKY BABY, because the Marvel flicks haven't even come close to touching "The Dark Knight" in $ or quaility!!! Now get me wrong Iron Man & The Incredible Hulk were excellent films, but they didn't have that "je ne sais quoi" as the Dark Knight, and I'll even go as far as saying Batman Begins...But overall lets just praise that we finally got a series of comic book based movies, where the directors, writers, & cast "got it." They had a much clearer understanding of the material, & their audience!

500 million here we come!!

P.S. Jaison Biagini is a homosexual for saying that "clone wars are like 1940 cgi graphics".

why is it important that TDK outgross Titanic, Melies? for one, it's a bit a retribution for all of us guys who were dragged to Titanic over and over and over and over and had to listen to that damn Celine Dion song ad nauseum. and second, it helps legitimize superhero movies as films to be taken serious and considered for Oscars (Titanic did win Best Picture, after all). and as a guy, it's good to see a superhero movie topping a chick flick thinly disguised as a disaster film.
