Update: Morgan Freeman Has No Life-Threatening Injuries
August 4, 2008
Academy Award winning actor Morgan Freeman (The Dark Knight) was involved in a serious car accident Sunday night in north Mississippi.
Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesperson Ben Williams said Freeman, 71, and a female passenger were traveling eastbound on Mississippi Highway 32 in Tallahatchie County when his vehicle went off the edge of the road. Freeman overcorrected, flipping his 1997 Nissan Maxima several times before coming to a rest.
Emergency crews extracted Freeman and his passenger from their vehicle using the jaws of life. According to Williams, they were both airlifted to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis.
Kathy Stringer, a spokesperson at The MED, said Freeman was listed in serious condition Monday morning. The condition of Freeman's passenger has not been released.
UPDATE: The Clairon-Ledger has a very positive update:
Actor Morgan Freeman suffered some broken bones in a car accident Sunday, but will recover, friends said this afternoon.
Freeman, 71, and a passenger, Demaris Meyer, age unknown, were airlifted to a Memphis hospital following a single-car accident around 11:30 pm. Meyer's condition was not immediately available.
Freeman’s business partner, Bill Luckett of Clarksdale, visited with the actor at the hospital today and said Freeman will be fine.
"He's resting quietly and has some fractures. Nothing life-threatening. Nothing permanent," Luckett said. "He's in good spirits, but he's in some pain."
Filmmaker Paul Saltzman said Freeman suffered a broken shoulder and a broken arm and expected recovery time will be six to eight weeks.

I wish well to Freeman's family and it's terrible that there has been an accident. However, one must wonder why would he be driving such an old mundane car?

Perhaps Mr. Freeman is not an ******* like the rest of his Hollywood brethern and actually drives sensible cars. Thoughts and prayers for his and his passenger's recovery.

I hope for the best for mr. freeman and his passenger..
..since mr. freeman lives in mississippi, he likely has more of a simpler approach to his life there, as opposed to owning the latest trendy cars even if he can buy a fleet of them..

Morgan Freeman driving a '97 Nissan Maxima goes to show that some showbiz personalities live a simple life and prefer not to flash their wealth and fame. Let's all pray for Mr. Freeman's health and speedy recovery.

Earlier reports said that he was talking to officers on scene, so that's a glimmer of hope if true.

I have always loved Morgan as an actor, now I respect him even more. A 97 Maxima, very sensible and practical. He is a class act. I hope for a speedy recovery for both Morgan and his passenger.
