The Dark Knight Crushes $200 Million Record
July 23, 2008
Warner Bros. Pictures' The Dark Knight broke another record on Tuesday becoming the fastest ever to cross the $200 million mark in five days! The previous record of eight days was held by three films - Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Spider-Man 2 and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.
Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins follow-up added $20.87 million on Tuesday to push its massive total to $203.8 million. That puts it at #84 already on the all-time domestic blockbuster list after just five days.
Right now, the only number we have for international markets is $41.3 million but that will start going up significantly as the movie is opening in many countries Thursday and Friday as well as into August.
So let's recap - widest release (4,366 theaters), biggest midnight opening ($18.5M), biggest opening weekend ($158.4M), biggest July opener ($158.4M), biggest PG-13 rated opening ($158.4M), biggest single day ($67.2M), biggest opening day ($67.2M), biggest Friday ($67.2M), biggest Sunday ($43.6M), biggest IMAX opening ($6.3M) and fastest to $200M in five days ($203.8M).

Glad to see the current situation with Bale hasn't deteriorated people's interest in seeing the movie :)
For once a movie that deserves all this attention and money has finally come.

Um...yay. The records are great and all but I'd be happier in hearing they are planning a third film with no one being replaced. They have to have some footage of Ledger that wasn't used. Put it in the third film at the end to give the illusion of the joker still running around somewhere.

Here's another amazing fact about TDK's continued box-office success. TDK's Monday and Tuesady ($24 mil and $20 mil respectively) made more than Spider-Man 3 did in its second Friday of release (which was only $17). More on Monday and Tuesday than Spier-Man 3's second Firday!! That's incredible!!

I know. I need to know if they are going to do a 3rd or not. But congrats to TDK. Simply amazing

I would love to offer 500 to whoever buys the ticket that brings this movie past the titanic record, but since I don't have anyway of knowing who the lucky soul will be, and since, let's face it, I don't have 5 dollars, let alone 500.... how bout I just offer my respect?

Biggest Non-Holiday Monaday. Although I think we can just start referring to the July 18th weekend as the official TDK holiday weekend now.

Do they really need third movie? How could it top TDK? I have to say that I'm satisfied with what we have now. TDK is the definitive Batman film.

MAN I'm so HAPPY that TDK is a huge success

I don't know Space Monkey. No wait, lets say it makes another $38 combined from Wednesday and Thursday. It could be at $240 going into the second weekend. I think it could easily make more than $70 million over the second weekend. That should put it over $300 mil by the end of next weekend, So Yeah it is possible.
Let's sit back and enjoy the pursuit for $300 mil now.

I hope they do a third movie in the same as TDK after BB debuted in 05. Hopefully they'll come back to Chicago for another summmer to film.
On another note, i'm really interested to see what chris nolan's next project is. Doesn't look like he's done anything since he finished TDK and there arentb any recent film credits for him on imdb.

I have seen it twice and it deserves every penny...
I'm hoping Nolan stays with the mob villain theme and choses the Black Mask as the next villain. he is just as demented as the Joker in the comics, especially in No Mans Land and War Games arcs...
