The Dark Knight to Pack Theaters Just Before the Dawn
Source:Fandango
July 9, 2008

Need we say more?

With more than a week to go before the highly-anticipated release of "The Dark Knight," Fandango, the nation's leading moviegoer destination, reports that many of its pre-opening Thursday midnight shows on July 17 are already sold out in cities across the country, from New York to Boise, Idaho. Theaters continue to add 3:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. pre-opening showtimes to meet the ticketing demand.

"'The Dark Knight' may be responsible for a lot of bleary eyes at work next Friday morning," says Rick Butler, Chief Operating Officer for Fandango. "We're seeing a record number of late-night showtimes selling out in advance, while theaters are adding new performances every day."

More than 1,500 late-night showtimes of the movie have been scheduled for the film's pre-opening on Thursday night (Friday morning), July 17-18, at Fandango.com/TheDarkKnight. An online survey of more than 3,000 "The Dark Knight" fans on Fandango.com over the holiday weekend offered the following information on the late-night surge:

* 37% of respondents plan to see the film at least once during one of the late night performances on Thursday night.
* 38% say that they intend to take off a few hours or the entire day from work on Friday as a result of seeing the movie the night before.
* 60% of these moviegoers are male.
* 71% are under the age of 35.
* 39% plan to see the film in IMAX(R).
* 92% expect that the Academy will recognize Heath Ledger's performance as The Joker with a posthumous Oscar(R) nomination next year.

For Fandango, "The Dark Knight" is poised to be the year's top advance ticket-seller in wide release, outpacing "Iron Man," "Indiana Jones 4" and "Sex and the City" at the same point in those films' sales cycles.

I've already got tickets for the midnight show, I also have tickets for a late matinee on Friday and IMAX tickets for Saturday.

I might be a little obsessed.

Man, this movie is huge! I think the hype might be surpassing 1989's Tim Burton movie.

The Dark Knight will rule the summer of 2008... I call 400 million by september worldwide!!! Heath Ledger will be the quinticential Joker for years to come.

reminds me of the BATMANIA back in the day when the first batman film was released... people in lines to see that film (the Tim Burton one).
...and now people who love the Dark Knight call that film silly and stupid. ;) so everybody knows how we are going to look at TDK 20 years from now ...

btw... I like batman in all it incarnations. strange how a superhero with the lamest powers (none, just his wits) and who's probably a borderline psychopath himself stir up such a worldwide hysteria... shame we cant ask freud about that :D

I am so hyped for this movie. I've already watched the Gotham Knight, which if you haven't seen it go buy it or rent it. I also went out and bought the Limited Edition Gift Set of Batman Begins which is a really awesome DVD. The features are awesome and all the cool stuff you get with it like the 128MB Batman Branded Flash Drive, and the Dark Knight Sneek Peak DVD included in it was awesome. This movie will be legendary.....but dont ever forget what Jack Nicholson did for the part back in 89 cause he was the best back then.

What about the % that aint going to see the TDK?

Posted by: Guest_1001 on July 9, 2008 at 12:11:51

I agree with Space Monkey. I'd stay up late to see it but not get up early to see it.

Posted by: Bat Who?? on July 9, 2008 at 12:12:53

Batman would get his A#* dropped by any Marvel SUPER Hero.Come on Catwoman almost took him out with little press on nails she called claws.

Posted by: JimmyBoots on July 9, 2008 at 12:12:57

Man, This is going to be AWESOME, too bad we don't have midnight shows over here, or any IMAX theater nearby

Posted by: neb_DARKO on July 9, 2008 at 12:15:48

This film is going to be massive more than the first batman film of 89 MASSIVE!!! i say

Posted by: Brand X on July 9, 2008 at 12:15:54

WOW 92% figure they will nominate Heath for an Oscar. I figured as much. You have a couple of Academy Winners and a bunch of nominees saying he should win. Doesn't suprise me in the least.
Can't wait.....wow, that saying is getting older than the Bud Weiser Bull Frogs at this point.

Posted by: f12 on July 9, 2008 at 12:17:28

too bad all these people are gonna get a huge slap in the face when they realize the hype was for nothing.

Posted by: JAROS GETTING ANGRY !!!! on July 9, 2008 at 12:17:49

this movie is going to be huge and i cant wait to see it!!!

P.S i just read an article that said that they might not make a hulk 2 due to the lack of movie goers. so i don't know if it's about people thinking that it suck like the first one (which i think it didn't) or is it because there wasn't enough advertisement. well for those of you who haven't seen it, it's a great movie and u should see it and tell your friends or family to see it because it's really not a movie to miss. we cant have this new hulk fail

thanks:)

3 A.M.? For a movie? Are you kidding? Guess what, its going to be the exact same movie EVEN IF YOU SEE IT A FEW DAYS LATER!!! These aren't playoff tickets. Some people need a life.

Bat Who??,

If you are a fan of film, enjoy having fun, or are a red-blooded straight man you will go see "The Dark Knight."

WhySoSerious?,

Thanks for the heads up on the movie set. I am going to go ahead and get the Blu-Ray disc version even though I don't own a Blu-Ray player. I am waiting until after E3 to see if there are any announcements.

Posted by: Dawn Patrol on July 9, 2008 at 12:22:35

I'd do a 6am show! And I love the hate coming from people who seem to dislike the Batman movies but enjoy commenting on them. WHY SO SERIOUS?! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
